主要な学術上の業績

菅野和夫氏は、日本では第２次世界大戦後に本格的な研究が開始された労働法学を法律学として確立させるという大きな功績を挙げました。また、学際的手法を導入して労働法研究に新しい地平を開きました。

菅野氏は、労働法の特殊性を考慮しつつ、労働法を全法律体系の一分野を担う普遍性を備えた法解釈学の体系として打ち立てました。これは、画期的な仕事であり、日本の労働法学を大きく転回させたものです。

また、同氏は、労働経済学、労使関係論などの諸科学の成果を十分に咀嚼(そしゃく)して、学際的な研究も進め、関係諸科学の関係者からも高く評価されています。

なお、同氏は、国際学会で総括報告者に選ばれるなど、国際的な活動においても大きな貢献をしています。さらに、その優れた学問を背景とした立法への直接・間接の関与も少なくありません。個別労働紛争の増加に対応して2004年に立法化された労働審判制度の構築に大きく寄与したのは、その一例です。
