主要な学術上の業績

鈴村 興太郎氏は、国際的に日本を代表する理論経済学者であり、ことにアロー、センとならぶ「厚生経済学」、とりわけ「社会的選択理論」に関する国際的な権威として多くの業績をあげました。
鈴村氏は、社会的選択理論のいっそうの前進に立ちはだかってきたいわゆる「アローの一般可能性定理」（民主的な方法による社会の合理的な選択の不可能性）の問題を克服する解決策を提示しました。たとえば、同じ社会厚生的帰結でもそれにいたる手続きや帰結を含む機会集合の違いを問題にすることなどです。
